What we do.

Basketball, life skills, and Ubuntu, on the ground in Harare and Cape Town every day.

More than
basketball.

Hoops 4 Hope has worked in underserved communities in Harare and Cape Town since 1995. Basketball brings kids in. Skills 4 Life is what they take with them.

Every session is structured around the 7 Tools of an Ubuntu Champion.

Our curriculum

7 Tools.
Skills 4 Life.

The 7 Tools of an Ubuntu Champion are practiced in every drill, every post-game circle, and every conversation with a coach.

Skills 4 Life

Skills 4 Life is a structured, evidence-informed framework delivered by trained coaches who act as daily mentors. Every session builds the knowledge, confidence, and values young people need to make safer, healthier, and more empowered decisions. Three modules carry the work.

Module 01
Youth Empowerment
Build leaders from the inside out.
Youth Leadership  ·  Conflict Mediation  ·  Literacy & Communication  ·  Social Cohesion & Ubuntu  ·  Resilience & Accountability
Why it matters: in Harare's townships, youth unemployment reaches 74% and conflict is a daily reality. This module gives young people self-belief, communication skills, and the civic identity to lead themselves and their communities.
Module 02
Health & Wellness
One body. One life. Know how to protect it.
Mental & Social-Emotional Health  ·  Physical Health & Nutrition  ·  Disease Prevention  ·  HIV/AIDS Education & Testing  ·  Teen Pregnancy Prevention
Why it matters: 60% of psychiatric admissions in Zimbabwe involve youth aged 16 to 25, and HIV infects adolescent girls at triple the rate of their male peers. Health literacy is not optional. It is life-saving.
Module 03
Girls in Sport
When girls play, they lead. And we all win.
Gender Equality  ·  GBV Prevention  ·  Leadership & Decision-Making  ·  Breaking Harmful Gender Norms  ·  Safe Space & Voice
Why it matters: South Africa's female homicide rate is six times the global average, and child marriage affects 1 in 5 girls in Zimbabwe. Sport builds girls' confidence, challenges harmful norms, and creates young men who are allies.

"The court is a classroom. Teammates become leaders. Participation becomes opportunity."
